Carrera del Peregrino

The Carrera del Peregrino (Pilgrim Race) is a new event in the running world, which will be held 18–24 June 2017. The race represents the union of Olympic and Jacobean values. In this relay race, 10 teams made up of 10 people each will run a total distance of 785 km between Roncesvalles and Santiago de Compostela.

Preparations for this new competition got underway in 2016, on the occasion of the Jubilee of Mercy, the year of the Olympic Games and the 120th anniversary of the first Games of the modern era.

About the race

The race will start off in Roncesvalles and travel 785 km in six days, ending in Obradoiro Square.

The participating teams will run ten legs each day, ranging in length from 10 to 18 km. With a cumulative elevation gain of 12,011 m and an elevation loss of 12,634 m, the runners will explore their limits and enjoy the incomparable scenery along the Way of St. James.

The race will provide a true challenge and the end of each day will offer the opportunity to relax and enjoy cultural options.
