In their images each one of these artists brings together a world which passes and also remains, living ways, filled with evocations and proposals. Pilgrimage routes to Santiago within the reach of all who become pilgrims and who wish to feel in their flesh a thousand year experience which binds them to a unique, sacred geography, to a universal, open itinerary, cradle of western culture and the refined expression of a civilisation advancing.

Once again, the images proposed by Via Iacobitana display the multiform essence of the Camino de Santiago, the generous and open meaning of the Jacobean pilgrimage, its inexhaustible and magnetic power of seduction. The artistic sensitivity and professionalism of the photographers who participate in the exhibition, captivated by the power and the values of a unique experience, forge a new iconographic legacy which transcends the ephemeral instant in which each photograph is made, in order to form part of a durable group, or Jacobean legacy, a treasure in a permanent state of recreation and renovation.

The total amount of such aid amounts to 90,000 euros which is distributed between the two lines of this call for applications. The first, for projects related to hospitality and activities aimed at the dissemination of Jacobean culture, is allocated 55,000 euros. The second line, which focuses on publications, is allocated 35,000 euros.

This line of aid is part of the work of the Xunta (Regional Government) of Galicia, to support the work of the Associations of Friends of Camino de Santiago, which add up to more than 300 around the world. In addition, their contribution is taken into account in the Strategic Plan of the Xacobeo 2021 through a line of action that recognises their work, especially as ambassadors of the Camino in other communities and abroad.

We need to remember that the work of these associations is one of the great pillars of the Camino de Santiago and that, therefore, their involvement and collaboration in the planning of the Xacobeo 21 is key. In this sense, the creation of a round table has already been proposed to advance in new projects, broadening the great collaboration developed between the Xunta and the Jacobean associative movement in recent years in our community.

If any of the interested persons submit their application in person, they will be required to amend it through their electronic submission. For these purposes, the date on which the amendment was made will be considered as the date of submission of the application.

For the submission of applications, any of the identification and signature mechanisms admitted by the electronic site of the Regional Government of Galicia may be used, including the user system and password Chave365 (https://sede.xunta.gal/chave365) for which a link is enabled in the Guide of Procedures and Services with the code CT300A.

In the case of foreign associations or entities (Associations of Friends of the Way of St. James and other entities whose purpose is the promotion of the Way of St. James and its pilgrimage) in order to proceed with the application and processing by electronic means will appoint a representative with digital signature in Spain.

The deadline for submission of applications will be one month from the day following the publication of this order in the Official Gazette of Galicia. If the last day of the period is a non-working day, it shall be understood to be extended to the first following working day.

The person in charge of collecting the prize from the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation was the General Secretary of the European Council, Thorbjørn Jagland, maximum representative of the European Cultural Routes.

The commissioner of Xacobeo 21, Cecilia Pereira, gave a thanking speech on behalf of the European Cultural Routes.

Manuel F. Rodríguez graduated in Information Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid and has a PhD in Information Sciences from the University of Santiago de Compostela. He has worked at El Progreso, La Voz de Galicia, Diario 16, Antena 3 Radio and Cope. Since 1992, he has been a member of Sociedade de Xestión do Plan Xacobeo. Between 2002 and 2013, F. Rodríguez was an associate lecturer in Audiovisual Communication at the University of Santiago de Compostela. Since 2008, he has been a member of the advisory committee at the Archivo Sonoro de Galicia, Consello da Cultura Galega (Sound Archive of Galicia at the Galician Culture Council). He has worked as an essayist, lecturer and article writer for specialised publications, press, congresses, summer courses and meetings in Spain and other countries throughout Europe and America. He is the author of many publications, most relating to the Camino de Santiago, including the following: Los Caminos de Santiago en Galicia (The Caminos de Santiago in Galicia) (in collaboration with Francisco Singul) and Los años santos compostelanos del siglo XX. Crónica de un renacimiento (The Holy Years of Compostela in the 20th Century. Chronicle of a Renaissance).

The Promoters

The Liga de Asociaciones del Camino de Santiago was founded on 24 March 2012 by representatives of eight Press Associations (Aragón, Navarra, La Rioja, Burgos, Palencia, León, Lugo and Santiago de Compostela), who gathered at the Santo Domingo de la Calzada national parador. Its objective is encapsulated in its motto ” For more knowledge, more journalism “. The first edition of the award (2014) was won by the Italian writer and journalist Carmen Pugliese; the second by the journalist and promoter of the Camino de Santiago Carlos Mencos; the third, Antón Pombo, doctor of Contemporary History; the fourth, the Italian researcher and journalist Paolo Caucci and the fifth, the Korean writer Kim Nam Hee.

The prize awarded by the Liga is named after the French clergyman Aymeric Picaud, who went on a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in the 12th century and wrote the Liber Peregrinationis, considered to be the first guide on the Camino de Santiago, which he completed around 1140. It is included in book V of the Codex Calixtinus.

The goal is to convert the Xacobeo 21 in the more participatory approach which, until now, promoting transparency and equal opportunities. Thus, for the first time, any citizen or entity, both public and private, can present their proposals to carry out in the anteroom of the next Holy Year.

Endowed with an investment of 2 million euros, or TEU Xacobeo granted, in regime of competitive, subsidies to new projects of dynamization throughout this 2019 and until April 2020. Through this initiative, the Galician Government seeks to involve and encourage the participation of all actors in society to design together a socio-cultural programming that anticipates the Xacobeo 21 and its impact.

In this way, you will define together its contents from a multidisciplinary perspective and plural, driving at the same time the sustainable development of the territory. These may be eligible for financial aid for three different types of applicants: local entities (municipalities gallegos, associations of municipalities, local consortia and the provincial councils), private entities (natural or legal persons constituted under civil or commercial form and the communities of goods which are covered by the definition of small and medium-sized businesses) and public or private non-profit organizations.

In the case of public entities, opens a line of 875,000 euros, thanks to which the municipalities of less than 3000 inhabitants will receive up to 10,000 euros per project; those of 3000 to 10,000 inhabitants, a maximum of 15,000 euros per project; 10,000 to 50,000 inhabitants, up to 25,000 euros per project; and more than 50,000 inhabitants a maximum of 50,000 euros. For private entities, shall be 825,000 euros that will cover a maximum of 60% up to 25,000 euros. Finally, for-profit entities are recorded 300,000 euros, with support by the 90 per cent of the project as presented and up to 20,000 euros.

Eligible Areas

Or teu Xacobeo covers a total of five eligible areas: artistic field, heritage-history-thought-spirituality, gastronomy, sports and social field.

The artistic field comprises a wide range of disciplines such as visual arts, architecture, design, digital culture, crafts, fashion, film and documentary, all kinds of music, performing arts (theater, dance, new circus, etc.), literature and book. In the field of heritage, history, thought and spirituality will include forums of reflection, meetings, publications, studies, conferences, training sessions, exchange programs with experts from other nationalities, educational talks in schools, etc.

With regard to the gastronomic area include experiences and activities of high added value, which will help make and enjoy the gastronomic heritage of Galicia approaching visitors and locals a part of the traditions, crafts, culture, history and territorial identity. Also the promotion of products with designation of origin or geographical indications (for example: wine tasting and wine tastings, talks, workshops, training and exchange activities, publications, exhibitions and other).

In the field of sports events are planned in any sport, with special attention to non-professional activities and for all audiences. Include activities and outdoor pursuits such as hiking or organised tours, group classes and also disciplines related to the welfare, promoting active living and joy respectful of nature. Finally, the social sphere contemplates the volunteer programs, social and/or educational that foster inclusion and participation.

In the allocation of subsidies of the projects submitted will be assessed as main criteria of relevance, quality of content and activities, communication and dissemination, viability and sustainability. Thus, it will be evaluated if they conform to the objectives and priorities of the strategy of the Xacobeo 2021 specified in the guidelines adopted by both the Council of St James at the national level such as the Organizing Committee of the Xacobeo 21 in Galicia. Also take into account how they are implemented in practice or the extent to which contributes to the dissemination of the values and objectives associated with the Holy Year.

The submission of applications shall preferably be made by electronic means through the standard form available in the electronic headquarters of the Xunta de Galicia. The term ends on 15 February.
