Art et légende sur le Chemin de Saint Jacques médiéval

La découverte du corps supposé de l’apôtre Jacques le Majeur au début du IXe siècle à Compostelle a déchaîné un des phénomènes religieux, culturels et artistiques les plus marquants de l’occident médiéval. Le culte croissant à Saint Jacques a attiré un grand nombre de pèlerins, jusqu’à créer un chemin de pèlerinage qui a connu son apogée entre le XIe et le XIIIe siècle. La légende situe l’arrivée du corps de Saint Jacques en Galice par mer, du port de Jaffa à la ria d’Arousa. C’est pourquoi le centre associé de Pontevedra est le plus approprié pour aborder le culte à Saint Jacques le Majeur, l’art médiéval et les légendes apparues autour du Chemin de Saint Jacques.
