The Xunta recognises the Council of Europe as an Ambassador of the Camino de Santiago

At the Galician Council’s press conference today, the President of the Galician Government, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, announced that the Council of Europe was being recognised as Ambassador of the Way of Saint James. This title was created in 2013 to distinguish the work of individuals and institutions that have contributed to raising awareness and publicising the path and its values.

In the case of the Council of Europe, the institution was recognised for its key role in publicising, promoting and raising awareness of the Jacobean Route and the values associated with it. In fact, Feijóo stated, the institution declared the Way to be the first Cultural Route of the Council of Europe in 1987 and promoted the Jacobean values as common European heritage.
